Parental Advisory

History and Overview
Many people fail to understand the significant role music plays on the attitude and psyche of young minds. God has challenged us as The Yuinon (pronounced union) to be a resource to the body of Christ in this area. In October of 2001, we facilitated a discussion at Rosedale Park Baptist Church in Detroit Michigan regarding the hidden messages in Hip Hop. We explained to the congregation the meaning of the hit song “Sippin on some Sizzurp” by the rap group Three 6 Mafia (released on June 13, 2000). Without doing any research on what Sizzurp was, national radio put it in rotation, not knowing that the song they were promoting was a potentially deadly drink! There are many ways to create Sizzurp, the most popular is Nyquil, crushed ecstasy (drug) with liquor. The response was overwhelming and confirmed what we suspected; parents are in dire need of help with raising their children who listen to and are influenced by Hip Hop.
By design, the catchy lyrics or subliminal images enter our children’s subconscious and before they know it, they’re not only walking around repeating the phrases that glamorize and encourage spiritual apathy, but also participate in the unhealthy and potentially dangerous acts promoted in Hip Hop, R&B, Movies and Mainstream Media. We, the Yuinon see clearly that music is a major battlefield in the war for the hearts and minds of our youth, and we refuse to sit idly by and allow it to destroy them. In 2005 we hosted our first Parental Advisory workshop, and over the years we have diligently developed it into a powerful and applicable training for parents, youth workers, churches and communities.
