Get In Your Place!

I was in a meeting recently and was given an astounding piece of literature from the website of Rick Warren, author of Purpose Driven Life . Within a few seconds, I was reaching out to a person sitting behind me, who had a pen, so that I could quickly write down some notes from the article. The main point of the writing was to remind us that we should feel privileged to serve God in any possible way. Let me put it to you the same way Rick did. God has throngs of angels who respond to Him with perfect obedience. He Himself is everywhere at once and can do everything all at the same time. All things in nature respond to God's every command. In fact, had Jesus' disciples not given Him loud praise on the day he approached Jerusalem on a donkey, the pebbles and stones on the ground would have (Luke 19:40 ).

With all the angels, clout, and natural phenomena ready at a moment's notice to act to fulfill God's purpose for His creation … why does He use us? Rick concludes that God intentionally decides to use us because He actually wants to. But before we get arrogant about this, it would be best if we understood that with all the supremacy He possesses, God doesn't have to use us; in fact, His overarching will is being carried out regardless of us. God's plan for the world has been taking place, is being carried out, and will continue to manifest until it's completed. The critical question here is as follows: Will you be part of it?

Let's take a look at some historical happenings. God knew since the beginning of time that He would free the Hebrews from their enslavement in Egypt . With that in mind, wouldn't you rather have been Moses or Aaron (or even Miriam's servant) when all this happened than a sideline spectator? God had always planned to free India from the rule of the British around the middle of the twentieth century. Would you have preferred to be a co-laborer with Gandhi in this successful effort or out-of-the-loop all together? And God had the foreknowledge to see that sooner or later a Civil Rights Movement would come along in the United States which would offer all Americans access to first-class citizenship after more than two centuries of inequality. Wouldn't it have been great to have been in the trenches of the struggle with Martin King and Andrew Young than riding on the coattails of their efforts?

God is going to do His thing come hook or crook. His plan will transpire and that's a fact with a period at the end. I can't speak for you, but I would prefer to be an active part of a team that is guaranteed a win than to miss out on the inevitable.

It's time to get in place!

If you regularly keep up with what's going on at the Yuinon and with Christian Hip-Hop in general, you and I have something in common: an unquenchable desire for the ultimate Truth (who's name is Jesus the Christ) to penetrate this culture and lead folks into a fantastic relationship with God. With that in mind, have you ever asked yourself what your place is in the Christian Hip-Hop Movement? Let me tell you something, in spite of all the challenges and opposition we go through (or maybe because of it) this missionary effort to the Hip-Hop culture will succeed. There's no way in the world God would awaken, save, deliver, and raise up so many talented artists and laborers within the Hip-Hop culture with the unscathed truth of God only to say, “Ooops … my bad. I totally forgot I wasn't allowed to reach human beings through a culture that has been questionable in the eyes of some folks from its beginning. Forgive Me.” I don't think so. If anything, He would remark, “Well, I've been saying I want to bless all the people of the Earth since the twelfth chapter of Genesis. The people of the Hip-Hop culture are no different.” Do you want to experience the privilege of co-laboring with Christ to bring about a revolutionary cultural shift within Hip-Hop? Or would you prefer to watch it on television knowing you could have lain your life down with us?

It's crucial at this point, fam. Hip-Hop is exporting the worst pile of feces to the rest of the world than it ever has before, not to say anything about how it's poisoning our own country. Lyrical content has been reduced to illicit sex, parties, rims, cash, jewels, and other lifeless entities that never fully satisfy. On the other hand, Christian Hip-Hop includes the most talented rappers around with substantive subject matter that speaks eternal volumes, and ever-improving production to match. This Holy Culture needs to be on everyone's radar like, yesterday, no matter what the response will be. What is your role? My suggestion is that we all get on board with everything we individually bring to the Hip-Hop table and experience the incredible benefit of putting our hand to the plow side-by-side with Jesus the Christ.
