As I write these words of agony
Thru tears my eyes see visions of red,
Twisted thorns form a painful crown
As they smote Him about His head,
The hitting, the mocking and the spitting
Caused shame beyond any compare,
As pain became His constant companion
The blood clotted up in His hair,
As words became sharpened daggers
That cut Him to the core of His bones,
As religious leaders requested His death
He would not call on His Heavenly Throne,
As His coat became a prize for their games
The soldiers knew not what they did,
Crucify Him, Crucify Him, Crucify their cry
The sin of the world, He came to rid,
As Mary shed tears for her blessed seed
The malefactor cried, “Remember Me”,
Yoshua proved His Heavenly Claim
Even hanging stretched out on Calvary,
So as this holiday season approaches us
Remember the gift that is forever free,
It’s not those wrapped, spread beneath the pine
Rather it’s the one that hung on The Tree.
