Parents: Letting Go

"She could no longer hide him." - Exodus 2:3

It comes a time in a parent’s life when we can no longer hide our children from the influence of this wicked and perverse world.  From subliminal messages in movies/music to the exposure of social media (facebook, twitter, etc.), it’s becoming more and more obvious that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the mighty forces of this world, and against evil spirits in heavenly places (Eph 6:11-13). The anxiety of letting go of one of the most precious gifts God has given us can be unbearable, however we must constantly remind ourselves that He loves and protects our children more than we could. This is why it is more vital than ever that we train them in the way/understanding of the LORD, teaching them to trust and fear HIM with all their hearts, so that He (not us) will make their paths straight (Pro 3:5-6).

"Moses sister stood at a distance to find out what would happen to him." - Exodus 2:4

It’s interesting how the bible mentions Moses sister in this verse instead of his mother.  Could the anxiety of watching Moses fate had been too much for her to bear, or did she send her daughter to check on Moses? One thing we do know is that Moses sister “stood at a distance”.  She did not get in the way of God; instead she waited to see what would happen. From your daughter’s first “date”, to your son’s first drive without you present, God gradually strengthens our faith in Him if we submit to our role as parents and not the role of the Holy Spirit. We often quote popular Christian clichés like, “Let Go and Let God” but our lack of faith often displays, “Let Go God & Let Me!”  Let us pray and ask God for the faith needed to be living examples for His children.

Then Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Take this child away and nurse him for me and I will give you your wages."
So the woman (Moses mother) took the child and nursed him. - Exodus 2:9

God rewarded Moses mother’s obedience with the return of her son by prompting Pharoah’s daughter to pay her for something she so desired to do, nurse Moses.   The LORD gave her a return on her investment (faith).  Many of us forget that most investments (children/teenagers) require the investor (parents) to exercise patience for them to reach their full maturity. It’s similar to when an artist begins a painting.  Only he (God) can see the final result before its completed, however the person observing (parents) must exercise patience to sit still until it is completed (Ps 46:10).

CONCLUSION
Parents, we must remind ourselves daily that our children are gifts from the Lord (Ps 127:3), and although He gave them to us, they are still His.  He knows the desires of our hearts for our children, however we must fervently pray that our desires are aligned with His will, and cast all our cares unto Him because He is God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.
