As a part of the Global Outreach Ministry of Rosedale Park Baptist Church in Detroit, Yuinon member “vessel” had a chance to rep for Christ in the Carribbean island country of Jamaica. JUHMAKUH MON! The six member team spent a much welcomed six day reprieve from the brutal Michigan winter February 8-14th. But don’t get it twisted if you think it was clear blue water and white sand beaches, the team saw none of that unless it was in passing as they drove for two and a half hours through the mountains from Montego Bay to Mandeville, a town in the parish of Manchester. There they partnered with Cornerstone Church for ministry opportunities. During the day the team visited the schools, and in the evening they participated in the One Blood, His Blood tent Crusade where Pastor Haman Cross Jr. brought a strong word. The women on the team even had a chance to visit a women’s center for young and expecting mothers.

It was definitely a blessing to be able to respond to the command of Jesus and GO! I love getting a chance to see how God manifests Himself in other cultural contexts. I really enjoyed the opporotunities we had to share in the schools, especially the high schools.

Because the country is so open to the gospel (they actually have school wide devotions for 30 minutes everyday!), we were told to emphasize topical themes such as peer pressure, and abstinence to challenge the students who profess, to actually live out their faith (Rastafarians are said to comprise close to 20% of the population but they are not heavily concentrated in Mandeville. We did encounter a few during our time of street evangelism in the marketplace).

The students in the schools were captive and attentive in a way that was foreign to me based on my work with youth back in Detroit.

There was an eagerness to learn among the students but the same issues our teens struggle with also plague them, the idol of “cool” for the fellas, and the pursuit of “love” for the young ladies. With hip-hop being global (Bone Crusher, 50 and DMX were some favorites), it only adds to the enemy’s temptation to conform them to the image of the world rather than helping them to find their true purpose and walk in their destiny, which is only fulfilled in Christ. I did my best to encourage them in this way. I was glad to be able to explain the mission and vision of The Yuinon, disburse flyers and give away a few dozen copies of The Prequel.

Pray that God would water and grow the seeds our team planted for His glory and strengthen His remnant in Jamaica.

The Yuinon’s next Global Outreach opportunities are Ethiopia (June 18 –28th) and South Africa (July 22-31st ). The Mad Prophets, and Maji are the Yuinon members that will serve on the teams embarking on these two short-term trips. Youth ministry, counseling, women’s ministry, and pastoral training are some of the planned ministry activities.

We are asking for your prayers to help raise the finances to help deter the costs for these trips. If you feel so led, your contributions can be made payable to Rosedale Park Baptist Church (indicate Yuinon missions trips) and are tax deductible.
