T
his was an interesting one, because I’m not one of those "if you listen to secular music you’re going to hell" types of Christians. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t purchase secular music but I don’t push any of my convictions on anyone else. Okay, now with that stated I want you to follow what point of view I’m coming from. This is strictly from the standpoint of knowing that we (Christian artists) have to compete with secular artists. This is a known fact. Okay let me give you this example:

What would your reaction be if you went to someone’s home who was a Pepsi employee, and when you went to his/her fridge it was stocked full of Coke? You would be a little shocked to say the least, right? And if asked to explain the person may give you an answer like, “well I don’t like Pepsi, it’s just a job!

You follow where I’m going with this? This person could definitely not complain about Pepsi’s sales or popularity now could they? That’s how I feel when I walk into some saint’s homes. Sometimes there is more secular music than Christian music in the home. Is that a sin, no! Is that person going to hell, not because of music they are not! But look at this:

We as Christians support an industry that we are in
direct competition with!

From a business standpoint that makes no sense. Now you may say “Well I only buy the positive music.” Well have you ever considered that the label that signed that positive artist also has tons of negative artists on it as well? The same artists that call women b’s & ho’s. These same artists promote murder, suicide, fornication, etc. Don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to pull anyone’s card. This is strictly from a business stand point. Christian’s spend millions and millions of dollars every year on secular music and then Christian artists (like me) have to struggle to get out an album. And then when the album comes out no one buys it. (Remember just the business point of view) Now if you were to ask any businessman he/she would tell you that makes no sense whatsoever. But that’s what we do, Christians. We do it every day, year after year after year. We wonder why HHH hasn’t gotten any play.

“Doing the same thing over, and over and expecting a different result…That is insanity” - Pastor Dana Thompson, Burning Bush Community Church

That is something that my pastor quotes a lot. As Christians we are the single most powerful force around and we don’t even realize it. You want them to stop playing explicit videos on MTV & BET. Then stop watching it. Organize your church to stop watching it. Encourage other believers to stop. These networks will figure it out. You want these rappers and rock & roll artists to get their acts together. Stop buying their cd’s and the cd’s of the labels that pay them. They too will get the picture. They would realize that the Body of Christ is not to be messed with! But I digress; anyway strictly speaking from a business aspect this doesn’t make sense.

Ok now here we go…what if, just what if we look at this from the spiritual perspective.

Now you may say to yourself, “…well the bible doesn’t say anything about listening to secular music!” And you are 100% correct. It doesn’t. But there is a specific area that involves music as we know it today that Scripture does speak often and adamantly about.

Reaping and Sowing

In Matthew 19 Jesus speaks of the principle of sowing and reaping. In the beginning of that chapter He begins by saying that a farmer was going out sowing seed here and sowing seed there. Some places he sowed birds came and ate it up, other places he sowed the sun scorched it. Some other seed fell among thorns and were choked out, and finally he found good ground and the seed that was sown there produced a “crop”.

Now do you think that after this experience this farmer would sow his seed anywhere else but on the good ground? Well what is this good ground? And what is the “crop” it produced?

Now without getting too theological, let’s assume the good ground is say…an artist or a music ministry. And let’s say the crop is the music that he or she produces. Now if we look at it like that, what do you think a Christian artist would be? What do you think a secular artist is? Honestly which one of the two is good ground? Without trying to explain it, what do YOU think? We have to look at money as a spiritual thing to really understand this. If you buy an artist’s cd, you are not only giving to that artist but you are sowing into everything he (or she) believes and stands for. You are literally sowing into their “ministry” (quick side note ministry just means service so a secular artist is doing a service) but to whom are they doing the service and what is the service they are doing, and why are they doing the service for that matter?

So without being too “spiritual”…CHRISTIAN ARTISTS NEED YOUR MONEY!

I don’t know if I can put it any plainer than The Word does on this:

Ecclesiastes 10:19
" A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes life merry, but money is the answer for everything"

Now does that mean money is greater than GOD, no! But the word does give a good comparison of money and GOD:

Matthew 6:24
“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”

The Bible actually compares GOD to money, not that they are equals, but that they both are important and both can be worshipped.

“When is HHH going to go mainstream?” “When are we going to see Crossmovement, Red & Precise, etc. on the networks or played on the radio?”

You want to know when this will happen, IF God allows it? It will definitely include Christians supporting it. I’m not talking about the faithful few; I’m talking about the Body of Christ supporting the work of the Body of Christ. See we can’t make this a natural thing…”Oh I don’t really like rap music.” Guess what, that’s ok…you can still support the work of our ministry, because it’s of GOD.

Acts 4:33-35
“With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.”

Sow a seed and meet a need…our Movement needs YOU!
